When you meet Jennifer Owens, owner of Choice Armor Insurance, it becomes clear that her work is guided by her faith and her heart for service.
“If God cannot be at the forefront of my business, then I do not want to do it,” she says.
That conviction shapes the way she shows up for people, answers her phone, and drives from home to home and food bank to food bank across North Idaho.
Jennifer entered the insurance world in 2011 and rebuilt her business when she moved to Idaho in 2020. She quickly saw how many seniors felt lost after the pandemic, especially those without family close by.
“People just want someone in their corner,” she says. “They want someone who will listen.”
Jennifer has made it her mission to be that steady presence.
Food Banks as Her Office
Jennifer now spends much of her week inside local food banks. She is at the Sandpoint Food Bank on Mondays and Wednesdays, the Newport Food Bank on some Tuesdays, and the Priest River Food Bank on Thursdays. She answers questions, reviews insurance letters, helps people understand changes, and sometimes just talks with those who are lonely. And yes, she restocks shelves and helps clean up too.
It’s not uncommon for someone to apologize to Jennifer and the food bank staff for shopping at the food bank. Jennifer is always quick to remind them that these food banks are sustained by neighbors who care, not government tax revenue. Communities are not forced into funding food banks but they do because they want to help.
“Please use your food banks. They are here to help you survive,” reminds Jennifer.
Jennifer collaborates with the Envision Center because she frequently receives calls well beyond insurance questions. She’s become someone people reach out to for phone help, paperwork assistance, benefits questions, or simply because they are overwhelmed.
“If I do not know something, I find out,” she says. “I will call whoever I need to call to get somebody help.”
A Crucial Enrollment Season
With Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period ending December 7, Jennifer stresses how important this year is.
There are a lot of changes for 2026. Networks are shifting, some doctors are leaving certain carriers, and medication formulas have changed significantly. Regence has exited the market, meaning anyone with a Regence Medicare Advantage plan must pick something new for 2026. Other carriers have also adjusted benefits or costs. Jennifer encourages everyone to check their medications, confirm their doctor networks, and review their plan options.
“Please look at your plans. And if you need me to check them for you, I am happy to do it.” she says.
Planning for 2026 and Beyond
When Jennifer sits down with clients, she always starts with the future. She looks at upcoming surgeries, new diagnoses, hearing or dental needs, and helps people compare plans side by side. Jennifer emphasizes that she only advises and does not make decisions for people. Her goal is to match real coverage to real needs without pressure or sales tactics.
Many of the seniors Jennifer serves are completely alone. Some deal with dementia, some lose spouses, and many have adult children living far away.
“They know that they have a place in my business,” Jennifer says. “They know that I will take care of them.”
For some, she becomes their only advocate in a complicated system. Jennifer’s commitment is evident in her long hours, her calm presence, and her willingness to help anyone who asks. For many seniors, she is more than an insurance agent. She is the person who shows up, listens, and makes sure no one faces these systems alone.
