Karry Opland
Karry was born and raised in Clark Fork, Idaho, before moving to South America with her family at the age of twelve. She spent the next eleven years immersed in the culture, becoming fluent in Spanish and developing a deep appreciation for the strength, resilience, and diversity of the communities around her. During that time, she met her husband, became a mother, and built a life in Chile before returning to North Idaho in search of new opportunities for her family.
Life did not unfold the way Karry had hoped. After returning to the United States, she experienced domestic abuse, significant mental health challenges, and the difficult reality of rebuilding her life as a single mother. With the support of friends, family, and community organizations, she returned to Sandpoint determined to create a different future for herself and her daughter. Having experienced firsthand what it feels like to need help, she understands the courage it takes to reach out and the life-changing impact that compassionate people and accessible community resources can have during life's most difficult seasons. Those experiences continue to shape the empathy, understanding, and hope she brings to her work every day.
While working full-time and raising her daughter, Karry began pursuing her dream of becoming a social worker. She earned her Associate of Social Work from North Idaho College in 2024, followed by her Bachelor of Social Work from Lewis-Clark State College in 2026. Along the way, she worked with adolescents in residential treatment, supporting youth who had experienced trauma, mental health challenges, and family disruption. Today, as a Bilingual Resource Specialist at the Community Resource EnVision Center, she has the privilege of helping individuals and families navigate community resources, overcome barriers, and move toward greater stability and hope. Being able to support others in the same community that once supported her is one of the most meaningful parts of her work.
Karry believes every person has inherent worth and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. She is passionate about advocating for children, families, and vulnerable populations and is currently pursuing her dream of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She plans to earn her Master of Social Work and continue building the clinical knowledge and leadership skills needed to make a lasting impact. Her long-term goal is to develop innovative programs that improve outcomes for youth impacted by foster care, trauma, and mental health challenges, helping them discover hope, resilience, and opportunities for a brighter future.
When she's not working, Karry enjoys spending time with her daughter, hiking North Idaho's trails, practicing yoga, exploring trauma-informed and somatic approaches to healing, cross-stitching, and finding new adventures in the mountains and lakes she is grateful to once again call home.
