The BE A NEIGHBOR, HELP A NEIGHBOR program in Sandpoint promotes a sense of community and helps to ensure the safety of all members during the colder months. By pairing volunteers with older residents and those with disabilities to clear snow from sidewalks and walkways, we can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors and create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.

Are you looking for assistance with shoveling your sidewalk or driveway? Here are some things to know before signing up to be paired with a volunteer through HELP A NEIGHBOR BE A NEIGHBOR.


  • You must have no resources (financial, friends, or family nearby) to assist with snow shoveling.
  • It is required that you live within Sandpoint City limits to be paired with a volunteer.
  • You may not be paired with a volunteer immediately. Assistance requires a volunteer to sign up in your area.
  • You must be at least 60yrs old or have a disability to qualify for assistance.

Looking for a way to serve your community and make Sandpoint a safer place for all? Sign up today to be paired with a neighbor in your area. Here are some helpful points to keep in mind when being a part of our program.


  • You may not be assigned to help a neighbor immediately. We will pair you with a neighbor when one becomes available in your location.
  • If you are willing to shovel and salt for multiple neighbors, please let us know on the registration form.
  • When you have been assigned a neighbor, we will send you an email with the confirmation details.
  • We ask that you assist your neighbor as soon as you are able and within 24 hours of the end of a snow event.
